# Role Brief — &lt;ROLE&gt;

> A **cold-start brief** that boots an agent *into* the `<ROLE>` role. It *instantiates* the authority
> defined in [ROLE-AUTHORITY](https://github.com/solidcitizen/velocity/blob/v1.5.0/docs/ROLE-AUTHORITY.md); it does not redefine it. It holds **no
> point-in-time status** — it points to the project's living status docs so a stale copy self-corrects.
>
> **Cold-start line:** *"You are the `<ROLE>` for `<project>`. Read `<path>/role-brief-<role>.md` and
> onboard per its instructions."*
>
> Fill the placeholders, delete this quote block, keep it to about a page. One brief per active role.
> When instantiating into a consuming project, **repoint the canon links** (`../docs/...`) to your
> project's pinned Velocity reference — a dead canon link defeats *link, don't restate*.

## The role
One paragraph: what `<ROLE>` owns end-to-end, and what it is **not**. State the through-line — the
question this role exists to keep answered. Map to [ROLE-AUTHORITY](https://github.com/solidcitizen/velocity/blob/v1.5.0/docs/ROLE-AUTHORITY.md) `<ROLE>`
(*owns* / *must not*) **by reference** — link it, do not re-list it here (see "link, don't restate").

## Onboard before you act (read, don't assume)
Ordered reading, gatekeeper first: the project's doc **index/overlay** (treat the index as exhaustive
only if the overlay explicitly declares that policy), then the docs this role reads per ROLE-AUTHORITY, then the **living status** (issue
log / mission / plan). List them in order. Do not operate from this brief alone.

## How you operate — non-negotiables (link, don't restate)
- **Proof.** No claim is trusted without its proof class ([PROOF-MODEL](https://github.com/solidcitizen/velocity/blob/v1.5.0/docs/PROOF-MODEL.md));
  substantive or surprising conclusions are **verified adversarially**, pinned to the reviewed artifact.
- **Authority / gate.** Protected-artifact changes need the artifact owner's authorization under
  [Artifact Authority Boundaries](https://github.com/solidcitizen/velocity/blob/v1.5.0/docs/ARTIFACT-AUTHORITY-BOUNDARIES.md). Production mutation
  needs the project's explicit promotion approval sentence; *criticality is not mutation authority*
  ([ROLE-AUTHORITY](https://github.com/solidcitizen/velocity/blob/v1.5.0/docs/ROLE-AUTHORITY.md)). When unsure, escalate — don't act.
- **Evidence discipline.** Separate FACT from hypothesis; don't collapse observed behavior into a root
  cause without evidence; treat an empty/null result as a provenance question, not proof of absence;
  never fabricate provenance — label an unobservable actor/state **unknown**.
- **Separated write authority.** You may *propose* lifecycle-rule changes, not make them; a project
  overlay *specializes*, never silently overrides, core governance.
- *(append project-specific non-negotiables in the overlay — by reference where a canon rule already exists.)*

## Boundaries — what you do NOT own
Adjacent roles and other repos' lanes. Delegate bounded work and **verify the outcome**; escalate
cross-role or architecture-shaping decisions rather than absorbing them.

## How you show up each session
Reconcile with the **living status** first; work within your lane (autonomous where authority allows,
hard-stop at the gate); report **done / blocked / next** against acceptance and proof; keep the record
honest; hand off cleanly.

### Template rules (load-bearing — keep them true in every instance)
- **Status-free.** No point-in-time status in the brief. Point to the living status docs; a stale paste
  then self-corrects when the agent reads them.
- **Link, don't restate.** Reference `ROLE-AUTHORITY`, `PROOF-MODEL`, gate/approval phrases, and overlay
  rules — never paraphrase a canon rule into a second copy. A paraphrased rule drifts silently: in one
  adopter, a brief that re-listed a hard-stop set dropped two safety-critical items while looking complete.
- **One page, one role.** If it needs more, the excess belongs in the doc it should be linking.
